About Us
Medicare clinic was established in 2013 was a long-awaited project that rose from the dedication and drive to provide quality clinical care and better healthcare across The Gambia. We started off as a family through the initiative ideas of our founder, Mrs. Annmary Shallop aided by the late Dr Ulric O. E. jones who saw our vision and believed in us; he gave us strength to persevere through trying times and encouraged Medicare to take bigger steps in the healthcare world. Following our official opening the clinic operated as an out-patient , but quickly expanded into an inpatient hospital providing holistic care to each patient. Our team has expanded vastly from a busy gynaecological clinic to a multidisciplinary team providing a vast majority of specialties and consultants from around the world to meet individualised needs of each patient. We make it our mission to meet the needs of each patient and liaise with other healthcare professionals in the patients best interest. Medicare welcomes all service users across the country and abroad to join our family in building a safer Gambia with better healthcare found locally.

ORTHOPAEDICS
Is the medical and surgical specialty that focuses on injuries and diseases of your body’s musculoskeletal system which includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.
GENERAL SURGERY
General surgery is a wide-ranging area of surgery with surgeons that have wide range of knowledge and skills to deal with all kinds of surgical emergencies, with an emphasis on acute abdominal problems
NEUROSURGERY
Our neurosurgery department is run by an experienced Consultant Neurosurgeon, Dr Jabang. We offer services to cater for adult, paediatric and congenital disorders.
OBSTETRIC & GYNAECOLOGY
Our obstetrics and gynaecology department has evolved to becomes one of our busiest specialties. With our in-house consultant and multiple midwives.
IN-PATIENT ADMISSION
Outpatient appointments or emergency presentations may require a longer hospital stay to stabilise patients, investigate further and treat diagnoses in order to make a full recovery.
CARDIOLOGY
At Medicare, we provide cardiology services covering the heart and cardiovascular system disorders. Our services provide emergency care for acute and chronic conditions such as acute chest pain..
DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY
Our diagnostic laboratory provides excellence and quality management throughout its testing process. Our lab is equipped with the latest automated diagnostic equipment manned by highly experienced staff.
OPERATING THEATRE FACILITY
Our operating theatre has been modified and upgraded to provide the safest and most aseptic environment possible. Our theatres are staffed and equipped to cope with emergency and elective cases alike.
RADIOLOGY SERVICES
A common service in medicine which uses imaging to diagnose and treat diseases seen within the body. At Medicare, we offer digital X-rays and Ultrasound imaging by a trained sonographer able to provide services and imaging of soft tissues, abdominal/pelvic ultrasounds and transvaginal ultrasounds.
PHARMACY & DISPENSARY
Our in-house pharmacy department consists of qualified pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who dispense a wide variety of high-quality medications from the UK, India and France. Our pharmacists work parallel to our doctors to ensure patients are administered
PAEDIATRIC SURGERY
Paediatric Surgery is a sub-speciality that focuses on treating children below 18 years with surgical illnesses such, as neonatal intestinal obstruction (failure to pass meconium, bilious vomiting + or - abdominal distension), Intussusception, constipation, children with no anal opening, etc.
AMBULANCE & EMERGENCY
Medicare provides a specialized service where patients can receive out of hospital acute care and transport from home to hospital or transport to other facilities when required. Our ambulance service is well equipped with all necessary equipment for safe and stable transport of patients.

Dr. Kehinde Oduntan
Specialist Surgeon
Dr Kehinde O. Oduntan is a Consultant General Surgeon at Medicare Clinic, The Gambia. He is an all-round family man with a surplus of knowledge and experience. Having completed his medical degree at “Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina”, Havana, Cuba, in the year 2007

Dr John N. Jabang
Consultant Neurosurgeon
Dr Jabang graduated with a Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery following which he obtained admission to the University of Cheikh Antra Diop for the Neurosurgery Residency. In June 2015, he was employed as a consultant Neurosurgeon in Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital. In June 2016 he started a 2-year fellowship in Paediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship in Israel.
Dr. Rainer Paulino
Paediatric Consultant
I graduated as a Physician, Pediatrician obtaining the highest category in my country of Second Degree Specialist and Associate Professor at the University of Medical Sciences, later I moved to Havana, where I graduated with a Master’s degree in infectology and tropical diseases, in addition to completing a Diploma in pediatric emergency.
Dr. Yamilet H. H. Castillo
Specialist in Obstetrics
I have performed more than 3,137 deliveries between eutopic, dystocic and Cesarean, as well as 523 Gynecological Surgeries, among them Salpingectomies, Oophorectomies, Abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies, Anterior and Posterior Colporrhaphy, etc. Also fulfilling with the study plan of the resident of the speciality.
Dr Musa Kah
Head of Orthopaedic
Dr Kah obtained his Medical Degree from RUDN University in Moscow, Russia in 2009. He worked at both Kanifing and Edward Francis teaching Hospital. During this this period he also worked part time at Medicare Clinic.fulfilling with the study plan of the resident of the speciality.
Dr. Cherno S. Jallow
Head of Paediatric
He was employed as a consultant Paediatric Surgeon and head of the Paediatric Surgery Unit of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital upon his return to the Gambia in December 2021, and he has done all Paediatric Surgery operations since then, including Paediatric Gastrointestinal tract surgeries, Paediatric Urology cases and General Paediatric Surgery patients.
